on HGTV on Monday. I am tempted to Tivo it because I am excited to see my former neighborhood getting the publicity. It’s a great place to live. But having checked out the picture on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website here, i think it will just make me sick.
A century old row house has been converted to a modern interior. If the interior was beyond salvage, I’m fine with that. Because the house was purchased from the Friendship Development Associates, I hope that is the case. I’m also ok with it if they are planning to live there for life. I’m a big believer that every home needs to be modified to fit the buyer. But if you like modern, please don’t tear up a perfectly good 100 year home.
I have nothing against modern. I lived in a modern condo in Chicago and loved it. But it makes me sick whenever I go through a century old home (on the market) that was converted to modern because that is what the owner liked. I picture a homeowner ripping out a hundred years of history and craftsmanship in order to modernize the home before promptly selling it (in the next couple years). Just seems like a big waste to me.
