PA residents hypnotized by electric meter spinning in reverse

May 25th, 2006 · No Comments

I’m generally in favor of protecting the environment.  But the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Plugged in just sets itself up for a good laugh.  Here’s the short version:

1. Congress requires electric companies to get power from alternative energy sources.
2. Electric companies convince customers to install expensive equipment because of government funding and tax breaks.
3. Electric company buys electricity from consumers at 2.5 cents.
4. Customers get to watch electric meter spin in reverse.
5. Electric company sells customers back their electricity at 14 cents (almost 6 times the price that it just bought it from them) when the meter stops spinning in reverse.
6. Electric company notes that while the service is free now, it may have to start charging if it becomes more popular.

Perhaps they are putting something in the water?
