Pittsburgh high schools mentioned in Newsweek list of the best

May 27th, 2006 · No Comments

Newsweek released its list of the top 1,200 public high schools in the U.S. measured by the number of AP (Advanced Placement) tests taken by all students divided by the number of graduating seniors.  Although I’m not sure that this is the best measure of a quality high school (the Newsweek defense seems to be here), a number of Pittsburgh area schools found themselves in the top 5% of all public high schools in the country.

The list of the best Pittsburgh public high schools and their rank according to Newsweek:
917 — Peters Township
1007 — Upper St. Clair
1050 — Fox Chapel
1072 — Mount Lebanon
1189 — Allderdice
1234 — North Allegheny

For more information about Pittsburgh public and private schools, find a copy of the 128 page Pittsburgh Business Times Guide to Western Pennsylvania Schools.  While I can’t find a copy online, it does publish a glimpse into the public school rankings.
