The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette followed up on the Friday Leadership Pittsburgh conference with an article about the growing popularity of municipality mergers in Pittsburgh. I guess that’s to be expected when even local residents aren’t sure where their homes are located. With a showdown expected tonight over property taxes in the North Hills (link to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article), any tax relief resulting from local government mergers, I imagine, would be welcome but late. Unfortunately, the benefits of fewer boundaries haven’t caught on everywhere; city officials are tossing around the idea of a new neighborhood called Baum Centre.
Property taxes, municipality mergers, and new Pittsburgh neighborhoods, oh my!
