The topic of today’s post is Beaver County, which is to the west of Butler County (covered yesterday) and to the northwest of Allegheny County (home to Pittsburgh). If you’re lost, there’s a good map on the Visit Pittsburgh site under the tab The Countryside (as well as information on wineries, covered bridges, country getaways, and everything else going on outside of Pittsburgh). There’s a map of Beaver County municipalities on the Beaver County website, but for some strange reason it is not to scale.
Butler County is referred to as the “best of all worlds” because it is a place of rural living in rolling hills and river valleys, that is no more than 30 minutes from Pittsburgh international Airport. There are photos of Beaver County available on the Visit Beaver County website (the Official Site of The Beaver County Tourism Department. There’s a wealth of information available online about Butler County, but not very much information (or at least I didn’t find it) about the municipalities within it. For more in depth information, it might be best to check out the Beaver County Times & Allegheny Times.
The history of Beaver County can be found online at the Beaver County Living Legacy. A shorter version (without information about the neat museums in the area), is available at Visit Beaver County.
If you’re interested in business in Beaver County, the best places to look are the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce, the Beaver County Corporation for Economic Development, the Beaver Initiative for Growth, and the Aliquippa Alliance for Unity and Development. If you prefer to be a consumer, you might try shopping for antiques.
For those with children, a list of the school districts in Beaver County (and links to their websites) can be found at the Beaver County Library website. Trulia has helpful real estate guides (including school data) for Beaver Falls and other municipalities in Beaver County.
Other exciting things that I found while researching Beaver County included an interactive walking tour of Beaver, and a city to city tour from Cleveland to Pittsburgh. I also discovered that you can go on local ghost hunts led by the Paranormal Research Society of Beaver County, whose link and Yahoo cache were both broken when I initially tried them (I’m sure they would blame ghosts or the date), but subsequently worked.
In lieu of more elaborate information about the local municipalities in Beaver County, you might as well search the houses via Trulia (hopefully this works):
EDIT: Oh well. Guess I’ll figure out how to code them side by side later.
