The FBI released its Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report for 2005. The story is mixed: Pittsburgh’s overall crime rate went down (due to a large decrease in the number of aggravated assaults), but the number of murders in Pittsburgh was up. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says that is a win because violent crime had its largest increase in the United States since 1991.
I decided to see where Pittsburgh “ranked” but I soon found that cities smaller than Pittsburgh had less crimes and cities larger than Pittsburgh had more crime. You can draw your own conclusions from the data.
