Searching for Pittsburgh Bridges

June 20th, 2006 · No Comments

In honor of the new book celebrating Pittsburgh’s bridges Bob Regan and Tim Fabian (the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has their book signing schedule), and the winner of the design competition for the West End Bridge walkway, Endres Ware, (you can check out the designs at the Pittsburgh Bridge competition website) I thought I’d offer up a couple websites for those interested in learning more:

Bridges & Tunnels of Allegheny County – Enough information to keep you occupied for hours!  They also offer tshirts on cafepress.

There’s a Flickr group for photos of Pittsburgh bridges!

If you’d like to build bridges in Pittsburgh, network at the Association for Bridge Construction & Design.  They’ve got building bridges down to the basics: ABC&D.

And, of course, there needs to be a group to save the bridges: Preservation Pittsburgh.

Worst pun (roughly): If you cross that bridge when you come to it, you’ll be very tired in Pittsburgh.  Thanks to the Associated Press.

Most (or least) comforting statement:  “[T]he number of bridges that actually collapse is so small, the probability it would happen to someone is not worth mentioning.”

Most amusing search result on Yahoo for “pittsburgh bridges:” No. 48: Find Dentists for Bridges in Pittsburgh, PA at Superpages.com.
