It’s all about how you manipulate the numbers. That seems to be the lesson from the Pittsburgh Business Times coverage of the recently released Pittsburgh area unemployment statistics. On one hand, the seasonally adjusted unemployment statistic was up .1% from April. On the other hand, that was down .2% from last May. Butler County was the lowest county in the area at 4.5%. The Allegheny County rate was steady at 4.7%, but the unemployment rate of Fayette County was 6.9%.
Somehow, I don’t think that local residents are sweating the statistics too much, as I learned today that Pittsburgh finished 79th on the list of sweatiest cities, behind even Cleveland, Syracuse, and Minneapolis. Thanks Pittsburgh Tribune-Review for that gem!
