Allegheny branch of Carnegie Library to be relocated

August 31st, 2006 · No Comments

LightningLightning never strikes the same place twice, or so I’ve heard.

On that note, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported today that the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will not reopen the historic Allegheny branch on Pittsburgh’s North Side, which was closed after it was struck by lightning in April.

Officials with the Urban Redevelopment Authority named 1210 Federal St. as a possible replacement.

While the historic North Side building’s damage will be fixed, no specific plans for the space currently occupied by the library were announced.  Let’s hope that a new tenant can put the space to good use!  At least they shouldn’t have to worry about any more lightning strikes!

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review covered another piece of history that is slipping away.  Construction at Point State Park (for which no contractor has yet been selected) is scheduled to eliminate the reconstruction of part of the wall of Fort Pitt.  Obviously, this has some who love history in a rage.

Let’s hope something is done so that these two historical areas are given some renewed life.
