Pittsburgh Housing Market: mixed reports

September 11th, 2006 · No Comments

If you picked up the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review yesterday, you would have thought they were talking about different locations.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette saw home sales up slightly in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area through June and home prices up 6 percent over last year.  It pointed to locations just outside Allegheny County as hot: the southwestern suburbs (from Bethel Park / South Fayette to Washington, PA; North: Cranberry, Adams, and Mars; and East: North Huntingdon.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, on the other hand, pointed to a report from the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise that said home prices in the second quarter around Pittsburgh eased and quoted an economist from Wells Fargo in Minneapolis as saying, “The wheels are coming off the housing market.”
