Downtown Pittsburgh Housing Developments

September 26th, 2006 · No Comments

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 246 condos are under construction or in final development in the downtown area, and another 1300 condominiums and apartments are being planned.  If they’re right that the downtown housing demand among young professionals exceeds the supply, then their article title is right on the money: Downtown housing boom no illusion.

The demand for condos downtown may be one reason that the planned Fifth-Forbes townhouses on the roof of the Lazarus-Macy’s conversion will now be condos.

Why are people looking to live in downtown Pittsburgh?  The promise of better things to come, I imagine.  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has had recent articles about efforts to increase safety in the Strip District and plans to revitalize Market Square.  With the amount of effort being put into reinvigorating downtown Pittsburgh, it’s no surprise that some people are getting excited about the prospect of living there.
