Walnut Capital has asked the Urban Redevelopment Authority for tax breaks in the redevelopment of the former Nabisco factory in East Liberty, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Walnut Capital’s plan is for the creation of a mixed use development called “Bakery Square” or, as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette called it, “Bakery Row.” Based on the drawings, it will have townhouses, a hotel, a fitness center, retail stores, and office space. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had a good article about Bakery Square and the revitalization of East Liberty last week. Artist renditions of the proposed development are available at the Walnut Capital website here.
Rob Stephany of East Liberty Development Inc. indicated (at least according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) that there will be a summary of the public meeting and a chance to comment about the project at the East Liberty Post, a new blog that looks to be run by the East Liberty Development Inc and the East Liberty Quarter Chamber of Commerce. They don’t have much up there yet, but welcome to the Pittsburgh blog family anyway!
