I received an email today from Andrew at Redbug Technologies about Mapwing, their website allowing the creation of virtual tours for, among other things, real estate.
Since my car is still covered in ice from Tuesday-Wednesday’s storm, I haven’t taken much of a look at it, but here is what someone else put together:

I checked it out the link and it looks pretty weak. Nothing more than an imature slide show at best. Very disappointing.

Doug: This program presents the same challenges as most virtual tours: Too many doors and hallways.
A classy slideshow or well-crafted video tour would be far better for this property–and most others out there.

One of the reasons that I like it (though I have to admit that I haven’t been looking at too many virtual tours), is that it is very clear where you are looking and what you are looking at.
I thought that the transition between photos was kind of corny, but that it had the potential to give a pretty comprehensive “view” of the house without actually physically going there — if the agent upgrades to the 30 location feature.

Did you guys see the Inman article? They seemed to like it- http://blog.inman.com/inmanblog/2007/03/aunt_crystals_b.html
Obviously not everyone wants to do their own virtual tours. I’ve hired a local company in the past for big bucks. Tours were great. But now I shoot my own stills so it makes sense to try something like this.

I thought the pictures were very professional and nice. Very thorough presentation. The pictures were very clear and vibrant. I would use Mapwing. I’ve just heard about them. Good luck on selling your home. You shouldn’t have any problems in selling such a beautiful home.

Excellent! I took a look and I thought it was very good. . . With the rise of technology comes Virtual Home Tours, wireless handheld devices for immediate communication, and home listings galore available with just the touch of a button. I hope all agents take advantage of this!
