There was an editorial in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (not written by the Post-Gazette) a while back about the difficulties of development in Pittsburgh. When I read it, I thought the author was wrong. I think I may now have to apologize.
There is an article today in the Post-Gazette that the attorney for the Science Center, the new casino’s neighbor, ”may” seek a delay because more time is needed to study traffic concerns and the impact of lighting.
The burning question is: How much time do you need?
You’ve had:
- A couple years since it was proposed
- 4 months since the casino location was selected.
- 2 weeks since the Tribune-Review ran a story announcing the study that said a cannonball rolled along North Shore Drive had little chance of hitting anyone on many evenings and weekends.
I understand you’ve already got traffic and lighting problems, but is that really the casino’s fault?
- Are you suggesting that you will have to close down because of the casino (as you do during Steeler games?)
- Are you saying that a bridge to the North Shore will be closed by the casino (as happens during Pirates games?)
- Are you saying that the owner of the Majestic Star has refused to negotiate with you while he was negotiating with others in order to advance development in Pittsburgh?
- Do you really think that the owner of the casino is going to let people eager to throw away their money be turned away by traffic jams on the way to the casino?
The train is pulling into the station. Get out of the way!
