That’s the report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette based on a poll conducted by American Style magazine. Last year, Pittsburgh ranked third.
Two quick comments on the article:
First, I was surprised that the article didn’t mention last night’s gallery crawl in the cultural district, which because of the good weather was very popular.
Second, the ranking is also interesting given that it comes just a few days after a recent Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article about how Pittsburghers don’t give much to the arts. Maybe one day I will look into that further, because I would expect that the #1 mid-sized city for the arts would have pretty high donation levels. And if the number of people who were at the gallery crawl last night is any indication, the problem isn’t that Pittsburghers don’t care about the arts.
