Interview with Pittsburgh-based Mobile Content Company: MoGoes

April 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Last month, Pittsburgh-based mobile media company MoGoes  created a buzz around Pittsburgh when it announced that it would be working with Visit Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership to create mobile content for downtown Pittsburgh.  It turns out that this story was just the tip of the iceberg for our local startup.  It has grand plans in the real estate [...]

North Shore Pittsburgh traffic concerns

April 17th, 2007 · No Comments

There was an editorial in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (not written by the Post-Gazette) a while back about the difficulties of development in Pittsburgh.  When I read it, I thought the author was wrong.  I think I may now have to apologize.
There is an article today in the Post-Gazette that the attorney for the Science Center, the new casino’s neighbor, ”may” seek [...]

More Pgh Real Estate Blogs!

April 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

As I’ve been searching the country for real estate blogs, I have to shamefully admit that I’ve missed two in my own backyard.
The Realtor Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh has been blogging since December 2006 at on RAMP: Real Estate Newswire; and
Jeff Philibin of Allied Home Mortgage in Johnstown also has a Mortgage blog.
Sorry!  Just goes to [...]

Blog Wakeup Day?

April 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

After publishing my list of 750 real estate blogs, one issue as I go forward is how to handle the problem of inactive blogs.  My original thought was to drop the blog from the list — if there are no posts in X months.  One suggestion has been to put an (I) next to the [...]

Case Study in Viral Marketing for Real Estate?

April 13th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Viral marketing is a subject that I have definitely been thinking alot about given my last two posts.
For real estate agents, the marketing method for a home generally is:

Take great pictures.
Put it on the MLS and the internet.
Run a couple open houses.
Tell other agents about it.
Advertise in newspaper.
Hope it sells, the home is “improved,” or the [...]

Propel Pittsburgh Commission - Why do I want to be on it?

April 12th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Applications for the Propel Pittsburgh Commission are being accepted by the Mayor’s office. If you didn’t catch the news story, the only metropolitan area in the US to beat Pittsburgh’s declining population was New Orleans. Subsequently, the Mayor announced (or reannounced?) the formation of the Propel Pittsburgh Commission to keep and attract young professionals to [...]

750 real estate blogs

April 9th, 2007 · 94 Comments

To celebrate the first day of Project Blogger, I’ve decided to release the first update to the list of 500 real estate blogs to watch that I published back in October 2006. My goal with this edition was to ensure that I had a real estate blog for every state, and I believe I’ve accomplished [...]

Grants Available for Pittsburgh 250 Celebrations

April 6th, 2007 · 1 Comment

As part of the city’s 250th birthday bash (Tribune-Review), the Sprout Fund will provide grants (Post-Gazette) to neighborhood organizations and Pittsburgh residents to turn their ideas to commemorate Pittsburgh into reality.
Although the website that the Post-Gazette links to is currently parked, I’m sure that the Sprout Fund or Imagine Pittsburgh will soon have a prominent link to it.
I’m looking forward [...]

The Sunny Side of a Declining Population

April 5th, 2007 · 2 Comments

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette today has an article about the declining population in Pittsburgh.  Apparently, Pittsburgh has lost more residents since 2000 than any metropolitan area except New Orleans.  This resulted from both a lack of immigration and a declining birth rate.
What the article does not mention is that Pittsburgh is just a little bit less [...]
