Vacancy Rate for Commercial Office Space

The vacancy rate for office space in the downtown area of Pittsburgh in 2006 was up 2% to 20%, according to a report issued by Grubb & Ellis and reported in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Mellon Arena: What’s next?

I’m intrigued by an article in the Pittsburgh City Paper (found here) that suggests that Mellon arena, the soon to be abandoned home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, should be saved rather than demolished.

Federal-North Corridor RFPs

Homestead is looking for proposals to redevelop 45 properties that it owns, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  Looks like they are trying to build on the success of the Waterfront, an entertainment and shopping area built on the site of a former steel mill.

Trader Joe grocery store opens in East Liberty

Bakery Square: A Walnut Capital project in East Liberty

Walnut Capital has asked the Urban Redevelopment Authority for tax breaks in the redevelopment of the former Nabisco factory in East Liberty, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
