Sewage filled property assessed at $120,000 by borough.  The rundown from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
Sewage has been leaking into backyard for five years.
Boy played in backyard.
House might collapse.
Baldwin Borough (closest working website I could find) wants to study the problem.  
Baldwin doesn’t like its options: $50,000 legal bill or $100,000 repair bill.
Homeowner doesn’t want to sue.

Good for a laugh — street safety!

WPXI reported yesterday that Mayor O’Connor signed a pledge to make Pittsburgh streets safer (from guns).  While crime control is important, perhaps he should have been focused on a different safety concern: Falling concrete from Rankin bridge onto Maple Street.

Mon-Fayette Expressway funding leaves Braddock, others in limbo

The head of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission asked lawmakers to decide the fate of the project, according to a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article Mon-Fay plea: Build it or kill it.  Neighborhoods in the path of the project are in limbo.

Local officials need remedial math? Shortfalls threaten development projects.

Anyone have an extra $3.515 billion?
A new report discussed in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette here concludes that the cost of the Mon-Fayette Expressway has jumped $1.4 billion over the past five years and there may not be enough money to complete it.  $3.5 billion is still needed for the project.

Giant Eagle faces competition — grocery stores invading Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Business Times reported today that Trader Joe’s and Fresh Market are both coming to Pittsburgh.  The speculation is that Trader Joe’s is looking in East Liberty, while Fresh Market is looking in the suburbs north and south of the city.

Station Square leads Pittsburgh casino race
