As part of the city’s 250th birthday bash (Tribune-Review), the Sprout Fund will provide grants (Post-Gazette) to neighborhood organizations and Pittsburgh residents to turn their ideas to commemorate Pittsburgh into reality.
Although the website that the Post-Gazette links to is currently parked, I’m sure that the Sprout Fund or Imagine Pittsburgh will soon have a prominent link to it.
I’m looking forward [...]

The Sunny Side of a Declining Population
April 5th, 2007 · 2 Comments
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette today has an article about the declining population in Pittsburgh. Apparently, Pittsburgh has lost more residents since 2000 than any metropolitan area except New Orleans. This resulted from both a lack of immigration and a declining birth rate.
What the article does not mention is that Pittsburgh is just a little bit less [...]

The Mayor’s plan to seize crime ridden properties from landlords, detailed in today’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette here, reminds me of the lawsuits from the music industry to stop the illegal distribution of music.
A great idea in theory, but poorly executed. At least that’s my impression after reading the Post-Gazette article. I’m not sure who to believe, [...]

Contagious Excitement
March 2nd, 2007 · No Comments
A Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial today noted that the 3.4 billion in projects in the works or in development in downtown Pittsburgh and the North Shore is bringing with it “contagious excitement.”
With the announcement of the Fairmont Pittsburgh and the conversion of the Century Building to loft-apartments (Tribune-Review article here), I’d have to agree.
Let’s just hope that [...]

On the heels of the news yesterday that US Airways selected Pittsburgh to host its operations center, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that nuclear engineering firm Bechtel has bowed to pressure from Hillary Rodham Clinton and Charles Schumer and will only be transfering 70 jobs to Monroeville (rather than the expected 260).
One step forward (plus 150 [...]

Pittsburgh Homes Daily is proud to present the Valentine’s Week Edition of the Carnival of Real Estate.
I’d like to highly commend the 24 participants who submitted an article this week. It’s a good thing that you didn’t have to submit it in person, since much of the state was shut down by ice, snow, and [...]
