Pittsburgh public transportation ranks 19th!

There are good and bad things to every city. 
If you are looking for a smaller city that has a good public transportation system, try Pittsburgh!  Its public transportation system ranks 19th in terms of the number of riders even though Pittsburgh ranks 57th in population.

Good news and bad for the Pittsburgh region

The Good: The South Side was awarded the Urban Pioneer award by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  Congratulations are in order!
The Bad: There were 4 times more foreclosures in the Pittsburgh area in the first quarter of 2006 than in the first quarter of 2005, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the opening of a casino in Pittsburgh could be delayed up to a year.  The delay would leave plans for a new stadium in limbo and hurt Pittsburgh’s ability to retain the Penguins, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Board Up Pittsburgh — Will it last?

Pittsburgh has started boarding up abandoned properties, according to WPXI and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  There isn’t enough money in the budget to demolish them, so they’ve bought $6,000 of building supplies.  The WPXI article suggests that the reason for the project was a recent abandoned row house fire.
